Sonia Kovalevsky Day at Washington University in Saint Louis

Dr. Martha Precup, Dr. Dorsa Ghoreishi, and I have been organizing the SK Math Day at WashU.
Sonia Kovalevsky Day is a nationwide outreach program (organized by the Association for Women in Mathematics) typically designed for middle and/or high school girls to encourage these young women to consider continuing to study mathematics at the college level and to consider mathematical careers. This event is named in honor of Russian mathematician Sonia Kovalevsky, who, in the 19th century, became the first woman to earn a doctorate in mathematics.

In Spring 2025, SK Math Day at WashU was a blast for all participants, including activities such as Math of Embroidy, Coding, Scavenger Hunt, and more.
In Spring 2024, we held the first SK Math Day event at WashU. It was such a rewarding experience to connect not only with student participants but also with their families and teachers.
